The AusSMC supports the accurate reporting of science in the media and has occupied this critical space at the front-line since 2005. It also administers the breaking science news portal scimex.org in collaboration with the New Zealand SMC, providing registered journalists with a one-stop shop for early access to new research, a searchable expert database and expert reactions. The idea to set up an Australian SMC came from the Adelaide Thinkers in Residence program, following the success of the first SMC, which was set up in the UK in 2002. The AusSMC is housed at Lot Fourteen in Adelaide.
