The New Zealand SMC opened in 2008, hosted by the Royal Society Te Apārangi and funded by the Ministry of Business, Innovation and Employment (MBIE) as part of the National Strategic Plan for Science in Society, ‘A Nation of Curious Minds‘. Based in Wellington, it also operates scimex.org, an online portal for embargoed science research news for registered journalists, in collaboration with the Australian SMC.
